Tears of the Moon (Audible Audio Edition) Di Morrissey Kate Hood Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd Books

A biting and beautiful slice of Australian history around the pearling industry with amazing and complex family connections.

The present and the past - some like to forget or hide from these connections and some like to delve deep until the two come together; for better or for worse.

In a nutshell you could say this is a love story over many years and tears. The journey is told with sensitivity and feeling. Imagining travelling form a comfortable life where nothing is ever "different" then being alone and heavily pregnant on the shores of a foreign country. The surroundings are foreign, the weather is foreign and the people look and sound completely different. Human bonds across ethnicity, old English classes and new ways of being are explored in this book. Sometimes delicately, other times the harshness of real life hits you right between the eyes!

I wanted to find out about the future, what happened next and coincidentally learned something about the reality of the harshness of harvesting the exquisite "Pearls of the Moon."

Tears of the Moon (Audible Audio Edition) Di Morrissey Kate Hood Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd Books Reviews

My first experience of this author and I can see why she is so popular. Good background research, well depicted characters, all created a colorful imagination of the life and times. Perhaps a few too many coincidences along the story line but that's just fiction.
Must say to start out with I am a sucker for Broome stories having lived and performed there for a few years, some ten years ago. This read was a real joy, in that it's one of those wonderful books you can pick up and treat yourself too when the moment presents. Savouring the next chapter or change in the plot, the style this yarn has been written in allows the reader to break the read into managable chunks for work or recreation hours. Characters painted by a sincere artist of the word. Di Morrissey has cast the perfect array of hero's and heroins, colorful personalities and villans. In a rambling and rocking mixture of action, romance, adventure and a tale that twists through a maze of culture, sculldugery and intense human compasion. This story was like being on that holiday that you never wanted to end. Three cheers, if I could be sure every time I went shopping for a new book that it would be this entertaining I would be a very happy man.
Another beautiful love story written by Morrissey. I had a hard time putting the book down as the story was so beautiful and the setting in a lovely part of the world. I learned about the pearl divers of this era & found that to be very interesting. I highly recommend the book
I loved this book! As an Aussie living in California for some time, I had missed hearing about Di Morrissey. I bought this for my and read it on flights to and from Australia. It was perfect. But now, as I am recommending it to my friends here in California, it is no longer available on . How has that happened? And the paperback is being offered for over $100 ! Is it the publisher, or is it ? Surely the author is not in agreement to this change ; she is losing readers every day.
All that said, it is a wonderful historical novel of the remote west of Australia and the origins of the pearling industry there. The relationships between the aboriginals and the western settlers are sensitively portrayed. It's a book that Australian high school students should read to understand the real history of their nation.
The above review does not allow me to have said there was very little violence and very little sexual content. This story simply didn't need sensationalism - it is sensational on it's own merits.
Di Morrissey is SUCH a good story teller - spellbinding ! She obviously does masses or research for all her books and so it's easy to just sink into the timeframe and FEEL the lifestyle.
Her characters are so real and likeable. Gosh ! Just read this story - you won't be disappointed. . .
I feel this story is so descriptive you felt you were there.... Is Captain Tyndall's house really there? I found myself believing everything I was reading. I found myself wanting to visit Broome to see all the other things that were mentioned in this book.... As the story progressed I guessed who would pair up with who and why Mika was in the story. Very well written how it all came together.
This author is a born storyteller. She weaves a spellbinding story of a young woman, Lily Burton who, upon the death of her mother, embarks upon a search for her roots. The only link with her past is a beautiful mother-of-pearl pendant with distinctive markings. Her voyage of discovery takes her to western Australia and a town called Broome. It is there that she finds her great-grandmother Olivia's diary and discovers the rich, though startling, truth about her family and its heritage.

This is a vastly entertaining book that transports the reader to the hardscrabble world of late nineteenth century western Australia, which finds young, pregnant Olivia Hennessey and her husband, Conrad, newly arrived from England, embarking upon a journey and adventure of a lifetime. There, they would meet Captain John Tyndall, a handsome and dashing adventurer with whom they would forge a thriving business alliance that would later transform itself into something else for both Olivia and the Captain. These star-crossed lovers would find that the path to true love is not an easy one.

This is an exciting story told against the backdrop of Australia's pearling industry of the time. It is an adventure story laced with romance, as well as an epic family saga. It is a story that will keep the reader riveted to the pages of this book, as Lily's search for her family's heritage unfolds. This book is an enthralling work of romantic historical fiction.
