LEOPARD GECKOS in CAPTIVITY by Robbie Hamper

In a relatively short span of fifteen years, the Leopard Gecko has become one of the top reptile pets.  They are docile, hardy, and reach an adult size that is becoming to most reptile keepers.  Their harmless behavior and seemingly pleasant "smile" have made them attractive to a wide variety of keepers from the novice to the advanced specialist.

Leopard Geckos in Captivity will be helpful for those interested in pursuing the Leopard Gecko as their chosen reptile pet.  Keepers will find them interesting, easy to care for, and an exciting pet that will enhance a keeper's interest in the world of reptiles.

It's an okay book for beginners, but I would highly recommend cross-referencing some of the information. I highly disagree with the author when he says leopard geckos live together in the wild, when every other source says differently. Leos living together can cause stress, as he says. Even two females living together may not get along. Just because they CAN be housed together doesn't mean they SHOULD.

I also strongly disagree with recommending calcium sand. Sand, even calcium sand, can cause major problems. I was also disappointed with the lack of information on health and diseases. There's plenty of good information in this book, like the "Choosing a Leopard Gecko" section. For those interested in morphs, there's a nice list of morphs in the back of the book with several pictures.

There's also a small section on African Fat-Tailed Geckos towards the end (which surprised me because I thought this book was only about leopard geckos). So, it's not terrible but it's not the best book either. Cross-reference information and research, research, research if you're considering owning a leopard gecko. This book alone will not help you raise one.

Good basic book for the price. Impressive photo section of "designer" leopard geckos. Stong chapter on breeding for the novice.
This book has amazing pictures of Leopard geckos. It helped me out a lot with my gecko. I have had my leopard gecko for 2 years thanks to this book. This book is great for leopard gecko lovers. I recommend this book to everyone. You have to read this book if you love geckos. It teaches you about feeding, breeding, and the temperature you need to keep the tank at. READ THIS AMAZING BOOK NOW ( !!!!!!!
This book is everything I needed. Love the pictures too.
alot of the info in this book is waaay outta date and untrue. so take the info with a grain of salt.
Wonderful help in learning about these reptiles
Book repeats itself multiple times. Did anyone actually proof this?
I bought after purchasing my first pair of Leopard Geckos with no intentions of breeding. The way these animals are shown to be mass produced is sad.
Some of the information is out-dated, though that is expected from a reptile care book over a decade old. However, it includes all full-colored beautiful photos. Make sure you do research outside of this book!
